Carnelian stone has a rich history, with its earliest use dating back to 1800 BC.  The stone was used in several different types of early jewelry ranging from Phoenician scarabs to “seal rings”.  The name “Carnelian” is derived from the Latin word cornum or cornel cherry, whose fruit looks similar to the actual stone.  Carnelian stone can be most commonly found in India, Brazil, Siberia, and Germany.
